AUTHENTICITY, TRANSPARENCY AND ENGAGEMENT: The Essence of Modern Communication and Leadership
Modern communications is changing the way we interact with one another and build relationships. The digital communications transformation taking place in society is shaping the leadership function: effective leaders have to embrace social mediums and empower their teams to be effective communicators on all platforms (with one another, with customers and clients, and with stakeholders).
Great communication, no matter the platform, starts with the fundamentals of good communication and great leadership – we have examples of leaders using social media effectively (and ineffectively) all around us. Our breakfast session will be spent looking at the importance of communications theory, how those applications of communications apply today, and the great communicators of our time (from how they handle the day-to-day to how they perform in a crisis). Attendees will leave with useful tips and information about managing their digital platforms, brands, and communications.

Christina Pilarski: An innovator in communications, public relations and online engagement, Christina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies with Honours from the University of Calgary. She also achieved a Masters of Arts in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary, developing a thesis around the ability to effect policy change through online engagement. A proven expert in digital communications including multiple online and social media platforms, Christina's background includes developing and executing campaigns, managing projects and helping to establish strong online brands for a variety of organizations representing various industries and sectors. Her belief is that stakeholder engagement and effective communications are really about establishing relationships, telling stories and creating messages that connect companies in a personal way with their key audiences.
Peter Pilarski: With over 15 years of experience, Peter is a proven expert in communications including writing, government relations, media, and stakeholder management. He believes that at their core, effective businesses establish meaningful and enduring relationships and organization-wide understanding of business goals and communications priorities. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and an Executive MBA with a finance specialization from the University of Calgary. Both areas of study have equipped him with the skill set to understand the importance of a strong strategic plan grounded in communications tactics and useful key messages.
