We are Christina and Peter Pilarski, founders and leaders of CIPR Communications.
In the seventh series of our podcast, Two Babies and a Business, we turn our attention to web design, one of the many things we offer in our range of digital marketing services. To start off with, one might ask: why do we even offer this service in the first place?
Web Design: “The Keys to the House”
After Christina’s experiences on both the client and design side of web development, she decided that she did not want to be involved in this aspect of online marketing at all. It is a difficult process and people often don’t appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into it. In the early days of CIPR, we decided just to steer clear of it.
Time and again, however, we kept encountering clients who had had, or were having terrible experiences with web design. Some were sitting with outdated websites that they didn’t know how to refresh. Others were dealing with website development and management companies that were charging exorbitant rates for fixes and updates. Obstacles like these made it very difficult for us to do our jobs as PR agents and marketers. As we kept coming up against these situations, it became apparent that we would have to make web design a part of our services so that we could deliver our other services better, as well as providing our clients with a strong base around which all other digital marketing tactics could be coordinated to maximum effect.
We always describe a website as a company’s house. All other tactics are directions that you use to help people get to your home. In so many cases, we found ourselves trying to execute all these directing tactics – PPC, SEO, content marketing, social media, etc. – only to find that we didn’t even have the keys to the house. After that lightbulb moment, we decided to take on the often challenging, but always rewarding task of getting involved with the development and improvement of our clients’ websites.
